Time After Time

چکیده
This essay explores South African artist William Kentridge’s multimedia installation The Refusal of Time, first exhibited at documenta (13) in 2012. In the material surrounding this installation, Kentridge and Peter Galison interrogate history time’s invention as a European system imperial domination, one that gathered planet itself into homogeneous regime sense. manifold workings systematised time dizzying array arenas (colonialism, labour, industry, cinema, dance, quantum physics). Time emerges materially via rhythmic inter- intra-actions mediated by power, but also draws on anticolonial revolt against formally de-naturalises time, releasing heterochronic energies disrupting habituated experiences neutrality. Via readings Kentridge, Jacques Rancière, Pheng Cheah, contemporary politics I approach mode thought (encompassing theory, art, politics) insists upon potentialising force.
